Most often, organizations acquire information systems as part of a larger focus on process improvement and efficiency. These organizations need to invest in the right system to meet their needs: right functionality, right size, and for the right price. The business systems analyst role in most organizations is responsible for translating the organization’s needs into requirements, which are then used to select or build the right system for the organization. During the Analysis for Business Systems course, you’ll learn about the standard model for systems development: the systems development lifecycle, or SDLC. You will learn how to read and even create the specific deliverables that business systems analysts prepare during the SDLC. These documents provide guidance to the organization as they determine whether to build or buy and configure a system that meets the organization’s needs.

Analysis for Business Systems This course covers the extensive use of Excel that is critical for business systems engineering today. The focus is predominantly on the use of Excel in business and in the technical development of business systems. All students’ success criteria are the same; they must be able to use Excel regularly for business. This course will also cover the basic use of the networked aspects of Excel that allow applications to be built that are not possible on their own. At the end of this course you will be able to: - use Excel to analyze data for business - use Excel to build data-intensive applications - use Excel to automate repetitive tasks To get the most out of this course, you will need to use an IBM Business Advantage account, access to networked Excel and an IBM SmartBoard. You will need to sign up for a free 8-week trial of Excel. If you use a Windows computer, you will need to use an IBM Account to access certain features of Excel.
