Course Introduction

Game Design and Development Capstone The Game Design and Development capstone is the capstone for a specialization that brings together years of work on the game concept, the language, the art and the programming skills needed to make it happen. During the four week capstone course, you will be working on a project that you have been meaning to start for some time. You will need to bring your knowledge and skills up-to-date on a variety of topics related to game design, programming, game development, and programming in the C# language. You will work on a project that combines the programming skills you have gained throughout the specialization and the game art and style that you will bring to the project. You will work on a project that will probably take months or years to complete. You will have the opportunity to work on a large scale with a large number of people and to learn a huge variety of topics. You will also have the opportunity to do it all with a single project, with no extra cost, through the simple application of a small team to a large project. The courses in this specialization will help you with the following: 1. Design a platform game using C# or another language 2. Implement a game on a Microsoft Band device 3. Compile and run the project in various stages 4. Share your project with the worldCommitment:

Capstone Development Capstone Development has several projects which are already finished or under construction. These include the following:
Game design A game prototype is a draft version of a game used for testing. Typically, creating a prototype marks the shift from game design to game development and testing.
Game design Game design is part of a game's development from concept to its final form. Typically, the development process is an iterative process, with repeated phases of testing and revision. During revision, additional design or re-design may be needed.
Capstone Development Jenkins announced his departure from Marriott in late November 2008. After 16 years at Marriott, Jenkins departed on January 1, 2009. In February 2009, Jenkins formed Capstone Development LLC with money from private equity funds, wealthy investors, and his own money. The company said in February 2009 that it already had good relationships with banks willing to give it development loans.
Capstone Development Norman K. Jenkins is the Chief Executive Office of Capstone Development LLC. Jenkins received his bachelor's degree from Howard University and his Master of Business Administration from George Washington University. He spent most of his career at Marriott International, where after 16 years he was Senior Vice President for lodging development. He received a "Washington Business Journal" Minority Business Leader Award in April 2008.
Capstone Development Capstone Development also submitted a proposal to redevelop historic Stevens Elementary School in the West End neighborhood of Washington, D.C. However, Capstone's proposal did not make the short list of acceptable proposals.
Capstone Development Capstone's strategy is to acquire or build hotels in the mid-Atlantic region in the United States. Company executives say their strategy is to focus on specialty hotels, hotels in markets that have high barriers to entry, and hotels that are market leaders. The company also said it would engage in public-private finance and development partnerships, as Jenkins had extensive experience in that area. At the time it formed, Capstone Development executives said they already had five projects in development and another four in the development planning stage. Some of these were public-private developments.
Game design Board game design is the development of rules and presentational aspects of a board game. When a player takes part in a game, it is the player's self-subjection to the rules that creates a sense of purpose for the duration of the game. Maintaining the players' interest throughout the gameplay experience is the goal of board game design. To achieve this, board game designers emphasize different aspects such as social interaction, strategy, and competition, and target players of differing needs by providing for short versus long-play, and luck versus skill. Beyond this, board game design reflects the culture in which the board game is produced.
Game design Video game design is a process that takes place in the pre-production phase of video game development. In the video game industry, game design describes the creation of the content and rules of a video game. The goal of this process for the game designer is to provide players with the opportunity to make meaningful decisions in relation to playing the game. Elements of video game design such as the establishment of fundamental gameplay rules provide a framework within which players will operate, while the addition of narrative structures provide players with a reason to care about playing the game. To establish the rules and narrative, an internally consistent game world is created, requiring visual, audio, and programming development for world, character, and level design. The amount of work that is required to accomplish this often demands the use of a design team which may be divided into smaller game design disciplines. In order to maintain internal consistency between the teams, a specialized software design document known as a "game design document" (and sometimes an even broader scope "game bible" document) provides overall contextual guidance on ambient mood, appropriate tone, and other less tangible aspects of the game world.
Game design document A game design document (often abbreviated GDD) is a highly descriptive living design document of the design for a video game. A GDD is created and edited by the development team and it is primarily used in the video game industry to organize efforts within a development team. The document is created by the development team as result of collaboration between their designers, artists and programmers as a guiding vision which is used throughout the game development process. When a game is commissioned by a game publisher to the development team, the document must be created by the development team and it is often attached to the agreement between publisher and developer; the developer has to adhere to the GDD during game development process.
Capstone Development In September 2011, Capstone said it had signed an agreement with Marriott International to build a Residence Inn and a Courtyard by Marriott on a parcel of Marriott-owned land just north of the Washington Marriott Marquis. The two hotels combined would have 500 rooms and cost a total of $172 million. The development partners asked the District of Columbia for $35 million in tax increment financing, although at that time the city said it was unlikely to provide this.
Capstone Publishers Capstone imprints contain fiction and nonfiction titles. Capstone also has digital products (myON, Capstone Interactive Library, CapstoneKids FactHound and PebbleGo) and services (CollectionWiz and Library Processing).
Video game development Game development, production, or design is a process that starts from an idea or concept. Often the idea is based on a modification of an existing game concept. The game idea may fall within one or several genres. Designers often experiment with different combinations of genres. Game designer usually produces initial game proposal document, that contains the concept, gameplay, feature list, setting and story, target audience, requirements and schedule, staff and budget estimates. Different companies have different formal procedures and philosophies regarding game design and development. There is no standardized development method; however commonalities exist.
Video game design The typical "textbook" approach is to start with a concept or a previously completed game and from there create a game design document. This document is intended to map out the complete game design and acts as a central resource for the development team. This document should ideally be updated as the game evolves throughout the production process.
Game design Game testing is a major part of game development. During testing, players play the game and provide feedback on its gameplay, the usability of its components or screen elements, the clarity of its goals and rules, ease of learning, and enjoyment to the game developer. The developer then revises the design, its components, presentation, and rules before testing it again. Later testing may take place with focus groups to test consumer reactions before publication.

Capstone Development Capstone Development was founded by Norman Jenkins in February 2009. Jenkins, a highly regarded Senior Vice President at Marriott International and African American, helped Marriott launch a Diversity Ownership Initiative in 2005 which worked to improve hotel franchise ownership among minorities. A year later, Jenkins oversaw a cooperative venture between Marriott and RLJ Hotels (the hotel investment operation of cable TV magnate Robert L. Johnson). The joint venture purchased 90 hotels, and left RLJ Hotels as one of Marriott's largest co-investors. Jenkins also convinced Marriott to build a Residence Inn in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. The hotel helped revitalize Silver Spring's downtown business district.
