About Course

The success of every organization depends on attracting and retaining customers. Although the marketing concepts for doing so are well established, digital technology has empowered customers, while producing massive amounts of data, revolutionizing the processes through which organizations attract and retain customers. In this course, students will learn how to identify new opportunities to create value for empowered consumers, develop strategies that yield an advantage over rivals, and develop the data science skills to lead more effectively, allocate resources, and to confront this very challenging environment with confidence.

Course Syllabus

In this module, we will explore the changes that the digital age has empowered consumers and the impact of that change on how firms create value for consumers and competitive advantage in the process. We will explore the strategy development process, the role of brands, and the the successful evolution of brands over time.

Leadership Through Marketing Marketers are the heart of any organization. In this course, you will explore the psychology of leadership, draw parallels between leadership styles in marketing and practice your own style throughout the course. You will examine how the marketing mix shapes the culture of an organization, and how you can use marketing as a mechanism for building cultural competence. You will examine how marketing contributes to building skilled leadership talent, and how you can use marketing to do so. Through the course, you will develop an appreciation of the role of personal branding in creating culture and inspiring performance. You will also learn how to use marketing effectively to build your brand and build your personal brand. You will analyze both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for marketing decisions. Interruption marketing Interruption marketing or outbound marketing is promoting a product through continued advertising, promotions, public relations and sales. Email marketing Email marketing can be carried out through different types of emails:
Direct digital marketing Direct digital marketing is marketing through an email address, a web browser or a mobile phone number. Traditional direct marketing was achieved using a customer’s postal address.
Mobile marketing Mobile marketing is marketing on or with a mobile device, such as a smart phone. Mobile marketing can provide customers with time and location sensitive, personalized information that promotes goods, services and ideas. In a more theoretical manner, academic Andreas Kaplan defines mobile marketing as "any marketing activity conducted through a ubiquitous network to which consumers are constantly connected using a personal mobile device".
Marketing board A marketing board is an organization created by many producers to try to market their product and increase consumption and thus prices. It can also be defined as an organization set up by a government to regulate the buying and selling of a certain commodity within a specified area. They most commonly exist to help sell farm products such as milk, eggs, beef or tripe and are funded by the farmers or processors of those crops or products. Marketing boards often also receive funding from governments as an agricultural subsidy. The leadership and strategies of the marketing boards are set through votes by the farmers.
Direct marketing Through mobile marketing, marketers engage with prospective customers and donors in an interactive manner through a mobile device or network, such as a cellphone, smartphone, or tablet. Types of mobile marketing messages include: "SMS" (short message service)—marketing communications are sent in the form of text messages, also known as texting. "MMS" (multi-media message service)—marketing communications are sent in the form of media messages.
Digital marketing Two other practical limitations can be seen in the case of digital marketing. One,digital marketing is useful for specific categories of products,meaning only consumer goods can be propagated through digital channels.Industrial goods and pharmaceutical products can not be marketed through digital channels. Secondly, digital marketing disseminates only the information to the prospects most of whom do not have the purchasing authority/power. And hence the reflection of digital marketing into real sales volume is skeptical.
Marketing Marketing practice tended to be seen as a creative industry in the past, which included advertising, distribution and selling. Inbound marketing automation Inbound marketing attracts prospects to a company's website through a combination of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC), and Social Media Marketing (SMM), then engages them with relevant content, converts them to identified sales leads through the completion of forms, and then nurtures them through a program of drip marketing until prospects are determined to be "sales ready".
